 <title>Bulldogs win district opener</title>
  <link>http://www.itemonline.com/apstorysection/local_story_014003104.html</link>
<description>The New Waverly boys basketball team made a big impression Friday night in its District 23-2A opener on the road at Corrigan. After going into the second quarter up 20-17, the Bulldogs made a few adjustments defensively and rolled to a 76-56 win to improve to 14-5 overall and 1-0 in league play.&#8220;Anytime you get that first district win on the road at somebody else&#8217;s house, it&#8217;s big,&#8221; NWHS head coach Bill Goffney said. &#8220;We came out playing real good offensively, but our defense wasn&#8217;t where is needed to be. We took a little time to change some things and really turned it on in the second quarter. We carried that momentum to the end of the game.&#8221;The Bulldogs started to pull away in the second quarter and outscored Corrigan 21-7 to grab a 41-24 lead at the break. New Waverly was able to get a lot of pressure on Corrigan&#8217;s shooters and forced several turnovers to open things up.</description>
