Several runners on hand for Huntsville Half Marathon

Nearly 500 runners and walkers from 60 different cities and several states were in Huntsville for the 31st Hillcrest Huntsville Half Marathon & 5K Run/Walk on Saturday.
Most ran the half marathon (13.1 miles) while others ran or walked the 5K (3.1 miles). Ideal weather conditions contributed to the near record field.Both courses started and finished in front of the Health & Kinesiology Center on the Sam Houston State University campus.
Adrienne Langelier, 27, of Spring and formerly of Huntsville, was the first place female in the half marathon for the third consecutive year. She finished in 1:23:20, bettering her time of 1:27:58 last year.
Juan Venegas, 29, of Cleveland was the overall male winner, with a time of 1:22:39. This was his first win in the race, even though he placed second in his age group in 2007.
In the 5K race, Emily Garner, 29, of Huntsville was first in the female division, with a time of 21:54.
Carlo Deason, 39, of Houston was the first male finisher in the 5K. His time was 18:00. Deason won the race five times before, but had not won since 2006.
