SCHALLENBERG: Dave Campbell's Football Magazine takes a look into the future
It’s only a matter of time before fans can start gearing up for Friday nights and Saturdays when the 2014 football campaigns get underway this fall.
With a few more weeks until the Hornets, Bearkats, Bulldogs, Mustangs, Trojans, Tigers and Lions hit the field again for preseason football workouts, the anticipation for what the fall will bring can start for most folks this week as Dave Campbell’s Football Magazine hits grocery store shelves on Friday.

New Waverly’s baseball team is headed to the second round of Class 2A playoff action following Friday night’s 5-4 victory over Blooming Grove in Franklin.
NEW WAVERLY SOFTBALL — Lady Dogs fall to Crawford in area playoff round
The Lady Bulldogs’ playoff run ended Thursday night with a hard-fought 9-4 loss to Crawford, the state’s top-ranked Class 2A team.

New Waverly outlasted Blooming Grove in a pitchers’ duel Thursday night to take a 1-0 victory to start playoff action.
The Bulldogs now hold a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three series in the bi-district round and look to close things out tonight at 7 p.m.
BULLDOGS BASEBALL — Primed for playoffs
The season ended a little more than a week ago and the Bulldogs have known for a while that they’d be back in the postseason.
The New Waverly boys will only have to wait a few more days before they can officially kick off the 2014 state baseball playoffs.
LADY DOGS SOFTBALL — Lady Dogs ready for area round
After dispatching Blooming Grove in last week’s bi-district round, the Lady Dogs of New Waverly are moving on to the area round of the Class 2A Region III softball playoffs.
Next up for the Lady Dogs will be the Lady Pirates of Crawford.

With their backs against the wall in the bi-district playoff round, the Lady Bulldogs put up an enormous fight.
Down 1-0 in the best-of-three series against Blooming Grove after Thursday, New Waverly responded with consecutive wins Friday in Madisonville to take the series and advance to the area round
NEW WAVERLY TRACK AND FIELD — Ashley Parks still looking to qualify for state meet
New Waverly junior Ashley Parks still has another opportunity to advance to the UIL Track and Field State Meet.
LADY DOGS SOFTBALL — Pressure’s on now
Back in the playoffs, the Lady Bulldogs are looking to make their mark and go on a lengthy postseason run.
In order to do that, the New Waverly girls will have to win twice today in order to advance to the next round.
